The Lincoln Land Women's Basketball team faced a familiar opponent Friday afternoon in the NJCAA Dll National Tournament. It was a rematch from last year's opening round of the tournament which pitted the Loggers against Union County(NJ). The outcome was the same as last year as Lincoln Land coasted to an 87-50 victory.
Both teams came out swinging which resulted in a 14-14 first quarter score between the #3 Loggers and #5 Owls. Union held their largest lead of 6 points at the 5:44 mark of the first period. However, Lincoln Land fought back to even the score after one.
The second quarter was the turning point in the contest. Lincoln Land's offense came to life as the Loggers poured in 26 points. A stingy Logger's defense held the high scoring Owls to a game low 11 points in the quarter. The Region 24 Player Of The Year, Megan Harrell, led the offense with another dominating performance of 16 points and 4 rebounds in the first half. Sophomores, Alexis Wade and Whitney Rumbold, added 9 points and 5 rebounds respectively in the first half as the Loggers took a 40-25 halftime lead.
The second half was all Lincoln Land. The Loggers outscored the Owls 22-12 in the third period and 25-13 in the fourth. Efficient free throw shooting and rebounds were key components to Lincoln Land's run. In addition, Lincoln Land was able to connect on four made 3 point baskets by Sam Lindhorst, Elynn Peterson, Lillie Woodworth and Ella Guerrero. The Loggers held their largest lead of 37 points at the 1:11 mark in the fourth quarter and cruised to their 33rd win of the year.
Megan Harrell paced the Loggers with another double/double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. The 5'10 forward also dished out 3 assists and drew 2 charges.
