The Lincoln Land women's basketball team starts the season 1-0, as they defeat Iowa Central 59-45. The #14 ranked Loggers would gradually pull away from the Tritons to secure the victory.
Both teams took a while to find their offensive rhythm early in the contest. As a result, the teams were knotted up at 9 apiece after one quarter of play.
Lincoln Land gradually pulled out to a 25-20 halftime lead behind the offensive prowess of Lillie Woodworth. Woodworth was the offensive spark plug the Loggers needed. The 5'10 sophomore guard scored 8 points in the quarter which included two 3 point field goals.
The third quarter featured six different Loggers scoring at least one field goal apiece. As a result, Lincoln Land had their largest scoring period of the contest of 24 points. Zoey Beehn, a freshman forward from Owensboro, KY, led the way 7 points. She was a perfect 3/3 from the free throw line to go along with two strong field goals in the paint.
Up 49-35, Lincoln Land became a controlled tempo offense. The result was both teams only scoring 10 points in the final quarter. Lillie Woodworth hit another big 3 point bucket while Sophomore guard Alexis Wade scored on two nice shots from mid range. Hunter Mowrey added a free throw to secure the Logger's 59-45 victory.
Lillie Woodworth led Lincoln Land with 17 points and 1 charge. Alexis Wade and Zoey Beehn had 14 and 11 points respectively. Beehn also pulled down 7 rebounds. Rounding out the Logger's scoring were Kylie Robinson 5, Hunter Mowrey 5, Lauren Chastain 4, Ella Demler 3.
Lincoln Land continues play in the Southeastern CC Halloween Classic Saturday, Nov. 1, as they play the host team in a 3:00 contest.
