Loggers Take Down Millikin JV 77-66

The Lincoln Land women's team played host to the Millikin reserve squad on Thursday night and held on for a 77-66 victory.  Lincoln Land started the game hot and got out to a 16-4 run.  Millikin then came right back and cut the lead to two points midway through the first quarter. The first half was a back and forth affair with Lincoln Land managing to take a slim seven point lead into the half time break.  Sophomore Marley Smith carried the Loggers with 24 first half points. "I'm glad Marley came to play" stated Coach Chad Jones

The second half started with a quick Marley Smith bucket.  It looked as if the Loggers were going to pull away, but two quick Millikin three point baskets cut right back into the Logger lead.  Things got interesting in the final frame as Millikin cut the Logger lead to just one point before a Megan Harrell put back ended the Big Blue run.  The Loggers manage to score a couple of baskets in transition and get the lead to 11 with just under two minutes to go.  The final score was 77-66.  Lincoln Land shot a dismal 14% from the three point line.  Millikin on the other hand, shot 39%

"This wasn't a great game for us tonight.  We held on to win, but we need to learn from this" said Jones.  Marley Smith lead the Loggers matching her career high of 36 points.  Sam Lindhorst was the only other Logger in double figures with 15. Megan Harrell lead the Loggers with 15 rebounds.  Smith pulled down 10 for yet another double double.  The Loggers climbed to #17 in the latest NJCAA national poll.  Lincoln Land improves to 10-1 on the season and will play next Tuesday in Milwaukee at Bryant and Stratton College.
