Lake Land - 75
Lincoln Land - 66
The Lincoln Land Loggers travelled to Mattoon and fell to the Lakers of Lake Land College 75-66.
Lake Land came into the contest averaging nearly 100 points a game and the Loggers were able to stifle the Laker scoring effort early on. Lincoln Land came out with a ton of energy and the two teams played level out of the gate. A timeout with just over 8:00 to go in the first half helped the Loggers pause a 6-0 Laker run. On the wrong end of a 24-18 score the Loggers were able to get back in front putting together a 7-0 run out of the timeout. Lincoln Land pushed out to a 6 point lead of their own up in the closing minutes of the first half. The game half came to a frantic close and another 6-0 Lake Land run left the game tied at 34 as the break came.
The second half saw neither team get out ahead by more than a bucket or two. With about 12:00 remaining Kyle Leonard knocked down one of his game high 5 threes to give LLCC. A 47-45 lead with about 12:00 remaining. Unfortunately, yet another 6-0 Laker run put Lincoln Land behind for good. Lincoln Land was able to get within 2 points on three separate occasions, but never closer. Lake Land was able to piece together enough stops and scores to hold of the Loggers until in the closing minutes they were able to get up by as many as 11 on the way to the final score of 75-66.
Lincoln Land did have multiple bright spots come out of the afternoon, the Loggers out shot the Lakers from the floor and behind the arc and were able to out-rebound Lake Land 36-33. The two stats that meant the worst news for LLCC were that they attempted less free throws and converted less effectively than Lake Land, going 10/16 to the Lakers' 17/22. The other hurting factor was that Lincoln Land gave away 15 turnovers, 10 more than Lake Land.
Leonard ended the game with a game and career high 21. Leonard was one of 6 Loggers with at least 5 boards during the contest. Camren Kincaid continued to be solid in all aspects ending with 13 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Eight Loggers scored on the evening with Leonard and Kincaid the only two with more than 10.
Lincoln Land falls to 1-3 on the season. They have a short break for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday and then will play on November 29th at Cass Gymnasium for the first time this season.
