In a colossal matchup of nationally ranked teams, the Lincoln Land women's basketball team picked of #7 Parkland College 74-61 in a Mid-West Athletic Conference matchup. Parkland jumped on the Loggers early and held an early 11-4 lead. Lincoln Land battled back and tied the game at 13. The Cobras would finish the first quarter on a 6-0 run. The second quarter was a reversal of roles as Lincoln Land went on an early 6-0 run and ultimately out scored Parkland by three in the period to go into the half with a three point deficit at 32-35. "Their early physicality was a huge problem for us" stated Logger coach Chad Jones.
The second half saw the Loggers come out with aggression and energy. "We talked at half that this game was going to be won by the team with the most toughness," said Jones. Lincoln Land took their first lead two minutes into the second half at 41-40. The game was a back and forth contest that saw the Loggers score two quick buckets late in the period to take a 51-46 lead into the final frame. Several ties the Cobras cut the lead to two point, but both time the Loggers answered with a Zoey Beehn making two three point baskets in the period. The Loggers defense stood tall late in the game and the Cobras eventually had to foul. Lincoln Land went 17-18 from the foul line in the game and held on for a big victory over a top ten opponent.
The Loggers were lead by freshman Zoey Beehn who had a massive game scoring 18 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Kylie Robinson poured in 16 points going 4-4 from the three point line. Alexis Wade scored 15 points while going 6-6 from the free throw line. Lincoln Land finishes the regular season with a record of 26-3 and 13-3 in conference play. The Loggers will now begin post season play on Tuesday night against Spoon River. Game time will be 5:30 pm.
