The #9 ranked Lincoln Land Loggers played host to the #5 ranked Illinois Central Cougars and fell in overtime 92-82. This loss ends a two year home winning streak for the Loggers. Lincoln Land came out hot early and outscored the Cougars 25-16 in the first period. The Loggers saw strong play from freshman Kylie Robinson and Zoey Beehn in the period. The second quarter was a much more even battle with Lincoln Land holding a slight edge out scoring Illinois Central 20-17. The Loggers led 45-33 at the halftime break.
The Cougars came out hot the second half and quickly cut the Logger lead to six. Lincoln Land held steady though and managed to keep the lead at four points heading into the final frame. Illinois Central took a two point lead with five minutes to go. This lead was short lived though, as Lincoln Land managed to tie the game and eventually take a two point lead. Illinois Central quickly responded to tie the game. In the final minute, Lincoln Land had two layups that wouldn't fall that would have taken the lead on their last possession. Illinois Central had the ball on the sideline with 9 seconds remaining and a chance to win the game. The Logger defense held steady and sent the game to overtime.
The Cougars won the opening time and quickly scored a bucket and sent them to a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The Loggers were lead in scoring by a pair of freshman Kylie Robinson and Zoey Beehn. Robinson lead the Loggers with 31 points while Beehn chipped in 23. Those were the only Loggers in double figures. Beehn led the Loggers with eight rebounds while Alexis Wade and Kylie Robinson each pulled down seven. Lincoln Land falls to 25-3 on the season and will play another ranked opponent when #8 Parkland comes to town Wednesday for the final regular season game of the season.
