Lincoln Land Community College celebrated Homecoming on Wednesday evening and the men's basketball team followed the women's basketball team's lead and knocked off Lewis and Clark Community College 79-69.
Lincoln Land got the first basket of the evening and then gave up two straight scores and called a timeout to reset. The reset worked as Lincoln Land immediately jumped back in front. Once in front Lewis and Clark was held to no field goals for nearly 7:00 of game play, unfortunately for LLCC the Trailblazers got 9 points from the free throw line over that stretch keeping pace with the Loggers. Despite building up a 9 point lead, Lewis and Clark hung around and went in to the half with LLCC leading by just 5 at 35-30.
Lewis and Clark opened the half on a 6-1 run and the game was tied, the closest the game was since 7-6 with 17:52 to go in the first half. For the first half of the second frame, the Loggers would push back out to a lead of 4 or 5, but Lewis and Clark would get the next two baskets and get right back to within 1. The Loggers again found themselves tied with just over 10:00 to play. Again, the Loggers put together a chain of defense stops and held Lewis and Clark without a bucket for nearly 7:00 again. This stretch, the Loggers avoided giving up free throws and were able to put in 12 points of their own to blow the game open at 68-56. Once up 12, the lead never got lower than 8 and the Loggers knocked in enough free throws at the end to lock up their 79-69 victory.
Lincoln Land improves to 9-10 on the season and 5-6 in the conference. Despite turning the ball over more times than the Trailblazers, Lincoln Land used a rebounding advantage and better shooting from the field to overcome the turnovers and giving up more threes and free throws.Â
Keshaun Harlan ended as the game's leading scorer hitting 20+ points for the fifth time in six games and finishing with 23. Harlan also ended with a team high 5 assists and 4 steals. Jalen Lockhart came off the bench to finish as the only other Logger in double digits with 11. Gus McCrary and Camory Hall were just short of the 10 points, ending with 9 each. McCrary just missed a double-double finishing with a game high 10 rebounds. All 11 Loggers who played, scored.
Lincoln Land heads out on the road for the last time this regular season, heading to Canton, Illinois to try to defeat Spoon River College for the second time this semester.Â
