The Lincoln Land Logger men's basketball team knocked off Spoon River for the second time this season, 64-56.
In a game that was nearly an identical afternoon to their last contest, the Lincoln Land Loggers held on late to hold on to victory. The Snappers of Spoon River got the first 5 points of the afternoon, but the Loggers immediately raced back in front. Taking advantage and holding it through the first half. At the break it was a 27-24 Logger advantage with the teams nearly identical in all statistical categories.Â
Early in the second half, the game remained around that 3-point contest with Spoon River getting as close as 1 and the Loggers leading by as many as 7. With the score at 42-35 Loggers, the Snappers put themselves in great shape, going on an 8-0 run and snatching the lead back for the first time since early first half. The two teams proceeded trade the lead 3 times over the next few minutes of play. With 6:00 remaining Lincoln Land put together their strongest stretch. After taking the lead back they did not relinquish it and with just under 2:00 left the game remained close at 56-54 LLCC. The Loggers closed on a 7-0 stretch and a 11-2 run over that final stretch to pull away for good to the final of 64-56.Â
The Loggers struggled offensively for much of the afternoon shooting making a near season low 4 threes, even struggling going 55% from the line. LLCC also gave up 15 turnovers for the third straight game.Â
Jalen Lockhart led all scorers getting to 20 points for the first time in his collegiate career. Lockhart also pulled down 6 rebounds. Keshaun Harlan continued his scoring hot streak getting to double digits for the 7
th straight contest. Harlan ended with 14, and game highs with 4 assists and 3 steals. Jean-Piere Villegas also got to double digits with 10, his 8
th time this season. Gus McCrary and Mason Neumann helped the Loggers get the final rebounding advantage with a game high 7 a piece.Â
Lincoln Land improves to 10-10 on the season and 6-6 in MWAC play. The last two games of the regular season come at home, first Saturday against rival Illinois Central College at 3 PM, and then the following Wednesday (2/25) against Parkland College.Â
