#2 Lincoln Land took on #10 Illinois Central College in a Saturday afternoon conference game. A strong Lincoln Land push in the final frame was not enough as the Loggers lost 76-66. The loss dropped the Loggers to 19-2 and 6-2 in The M-WAC.
A cold shooting Loggers squad found themselves down 24-17 in the first quarter. Lincoln Land went 0/3 from the three point line and shot 41% from the field. Isabella Tiburzi led the Loggers with 5 first quarter points.
The offensive struggles continued for Lincoln Land as the Loggers could only score 9 points during the quarter. The defensive effort was better for Lincoln Land but ICC still managed to increase their lead to 41-26 going into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, ICC once again was able to pull away from the Loggers. The Cougars outscored Lincoln Land 22-18 to head into the final frame up 63-43.
The fourth quarter was a completely different game. Lincoln Land went on a run to get within 9 points at the 5:35 mark. The Logger's offense woke up and scored their game high of 23 points. The Lincoln Land defense got aggressive and forced several turnovers that led to transition buckets. Unfortunately for the Loggers, they had to foul late in the frame and ICC was able to hit their free throws. The result was a 76-66 victory for the Cougars.
Freshmen Zoey Beehn and Kylie Robinson led Lincoln Land with 14 points apiece. Beehn pulled down & rebounds and Robinson had 6. Lillie Woodworth added 12 points and 6 rebounds. Rounding out the Logger's scoring: Hunter Mowrey and Lauren Chastain 8, Isabella Tiburzi 7, Alexis Wade 3.
Lincoln Land is back in action Saturday, Jan. 31 as they travel to Quincy, IL to face John Wood in a 1:00pm contest.
