The #2 ranked Lincoln Land Loggers played host to the Snappers of Spoon River College and scored a decisive 85-39 victory. With the victory, the Loggers set a school record for consecutive wins at 18. This mark bests the 17-game win streak set by last years squad. The Loggers started the game slowly and struggled from the field. In addition, the Logger defense was flat and allowed Spoon River to match baskets much of the first quarter. Lincoln Land led 15-10 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Loggers put some distance between themelsves and the Snappers. The Loggers outscored Spoon River 24-7 in the second period. The Loggers struggled with the zone defense of Spoon River in the half shooting just 26% from beyond the three point arc.
The second half Lincoln Land slowly pulled away. The Loggers won the third period 22-11 and the fourth period 24-11, for a final score of 85-39. The key stat to the victory was the rebound edge for the Loggers. Lincoln Land won the battle of the boards 45-19, with Zoey Beehn pulling down 16. Lillie Woodworth pulled down eight respectively. The Loggers put three players in double figures with Beehn leading the way with 26. Isabella Tiburzi contributed 15 and Lillie Woodworth 10. The Loggers forced 26 turnovers on the day with Alexis Wade grabbing five steals. Lincoln Land improves to 18-0 and 5-0 in MWAC play. The Loggers are in the toughest stretch of their season with four games in eight days, with two of those games being on the road against ranked teams. "This is a great test for us. If you want to play deep in March, you have to be able to overcome things like this" said Logger coach Chad Jones. Lincoln Land plays again Monday at home vs. Kaskaskia College.
