Lincoln Land Community College Women's Soccer dropped its first match of the season, falling 2-1 to nationally ranked No. 12 Rock Valley College in a non-conference contest. The Loggers move to 8-1 overall.
The match was delayed 1 hour and 45 minutes due to lightning, but once play began, both sides settled into what proved to be an evenly matched contest between two unbeaten teams. Rock Valley broke through in the 34th minute on a free kick just outside the box, capitalizing in the chaos to take a 1-0 lead.
Early in the second half, Rock Valley added a second goal in the 48th minute, scoring off a corner kick that was eventually put away after a few bounces in the box.
The Loggers kept pressing and were rewarded in the 81st minute.
Sophia Smith intercepted a punt from the Rock Valley goalkeeper and struck from 30 yards out, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Despite continued pressure, LLCC couldn't find the equalizer before the final whistle.
