In a battle of top ten ranked teams, the #9 ranked Lincoln Land women's basketball team beat the #7 ranked Illinois Central Cougars by a score of 58-41 on a snow covered Wednesday game at Cass Gym. The game started with both teams trading baskets for the first two minutes. Illinois Central had a three point lead at the eight minute mark of the first quarter. This would be their only lead of the game. Lincoln Land quickly matched the score and eventually took a 19-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Logger momentum continue as Lincoln Land extended their lead to 41-22 at the half. The Logger press caused problems for Illinois Central forcing three turnovers in the last thirty seconds of the half. Sam Lindhorst had a huge first half for Lincoln Land with 13 points and four steals.
The second half turned into a defensive battle. Lincoln Land held the usually high powered Cougar offense to just 9 points in the third quarter. The Logger lead increased to 24 with just under 9 minutes to play in the game. At this point, the up-tempo Logger offense began patiently controlling the ball and eventually scored a 58-41 win to stay unbeaten at home on the season. "Our defense was fantastic tonight" stated Logger coach Chad Jones. The Loggers had three starters score 15 points apiece. Sam Lindhorst, Alexis Wade, and Megan Harrell carried the scoring load. Harrell pulled down a team high 12 rebounds and Whitney Rumbold pulled down eight. Lincoln Land improves to 23-2 on the season and 9-2 in MWAC play. This was the first MWAC loss for Illinois Central. The Loggers will travel to Danville on Saturday for a 1pm contest.
