Loggers Start off the New Year With a Bang

Lincoln Land women's basketball team rang in the new year with a convincing 103-44 victory over Spoon River College. The number 5th ranked Loggers scored the first two points of the game and never looked back.

Lincoln Land took a 21-7 first quarter lead over the Snappers. Sam Lindhorst and Alexis Wade both  scored 4 points in the frame. The Loggers matched their first quarter score with 21 more points in the second period to secure a 42-17 advantage going into halftime. Lindhorst and Durbin Thomas both drained a 3 point basket while Elynn Peterson scored 4 points.

Whitney Rumbold came to life in the third period by scoring 11 points. The sophomore forward hit a 3 point basket and was perfect from the free throw line going 2/2. Peterson and Mae Herman both added a 3 point basket to extend the Loggers  lead to 73-31 after three quarters of play.

Lincoln Land was able to meet the century mark behind Freshmen Lauren Chastain and Taylor Blehm. The two Missouri products combined for 24 points in the final frame with the sharpshooter Chastain scoring three 3 point baskets. A free throw by Adi Fraase was the 100th point for Lincoln Land who went on to win 103-44.

Whitney Rumbold had a game high 19 points and 8 rebounds. Taylor Blehm had 17 points and 7 rebounds. Rounding out the Logger scoring was: Lauren Chastain 14, Sam Lindhorst 12, Megan Harrell 8, Alexis 8, Elynn Peterson 7, Mae Herman 7, Adi Fraase 6, Durbin Thomas 5. Thomas also handed out 9 assists as the Loggers improved to 15-0. Lincoln Land will be back in action Wednesday, Jan. 8 against Lewis & Clark. Game time is 5:30 in Springfield,IL at Cass Gym.
