Strong Second Half Was Not Enough

A strong second half by the Lincoln Land women's basketball team wasn't enough as the Loggers dropped their contest with Lake Land 69-63. Lincoln Land found themselves down 21-14 after one quarter of play. Sam Lindhorst and Durbin Thomas both hit a three point basket while Marley Smith had a six point quarter.

The second quarter saw Lake Land extend their lead by outscoring the Loggers 16-11 to take a 37-25 a going into halftime. Durbin Thomas drained another three pointer in the frame. Avrie Schmidt also hit a three against the Lakers' zone. Megan Harrell finished with five points in the quarter.

The Lincoln Land offense came to life in the third quarter. Marley Smith and Avrie Schmidt were instrumental offensively for the Loggers. Smith was  dominate in the paint as she scored 9 points. Schmidt buried two more  3 pointers along with two free throws to finish with 8 in the frame. The offensive outburst brought the game within reach as the Loggers outscored Lake Land 24-14.

Entering the final period down 51-49, the Loggers were unable to continue their offensive flow. Despite Durbin Thomas' third three point basket and Megan Harrell's six point, the Loggers could never overcome the deficit. Lake Land was able to deny the Logger's run by outscoring them 18-14 for the 69-63 victory.

Marley Smith lead Lincoln Kand with 18 points. Megan Harrell had 14 and Avrie Schmidt finished with 13. Sam Lindhorst and Durbin Thomas each finished with 9 points.
Lincoln Land drops to 23-6 on the season. The Loggers have their season finale Saturday, March 2 as they host Danville Area CC in a 1:00 contest.
