Lincoln Land women's basketball team improved to 14-0 with a 66-61 win on the road against Black Hawk College. The 5th ranked Loggers jumped out early and took a commanding 25-8 first quarter lead. Sam Lindhorst and Megan Harrell provided early offense with 8 and 6 points apiece in the quarter. Lauren Chastain hit a three point basket as well.
The next three quarters were highly contested. Black Hawk's offense woke up as the Braves outscored the Loggers 19-10 in the second quarter. However, Lincoln Land still led 35-27 going into halftime. Lindhorst and Harrell were the only two Loggers to score in the period with 6 and 4 points respectively.
The third quarter was once again won by Black Hawk 17-13. Taylor Blehm kept the Loggers alive by scoring twice on the block and sinking a free throw for 5 points. Mae Herman added 4 points as Lincoln Land still led after three periods 48-44.
Alexis Wade and Whitney Rumbold were the offensive catalysts in the fourth quarter. Alexis had 6 points to lead the way while Whitney added 5. Black Hawk actually took a 1 point lead midway through the fourth but Lincoln Land managed to get two defensive stops and scored on both possessions to re-take the lead. Durbin Thomas made two free throws with 45 seconds to give the Loggers a two possession lead and close out the contest 66-61.
Sam Lindhorst finished with a team high 21 points. Megan Harrell had 10 while Whitney Rumbold added 9. Lincoln Land is now 14-0 and will return to action Jan. 4 at Soon River in Canton, IL.
