The Lincoln Land women's basketball team hosted the Jefferson College Vikings (MO) in an interstate battle of ranked teams. The #6 Loggers pulled out a close win over the #22 Vikings by a score of 69-59. Both teams struggle early to find points. The first quarter was the lowest scoring quarter of the season for Lincoln Land with only 10 points. Fortunately, Jefferson College struggled just as much and only managed nine points in the period. "I am not sure if it was a situation of great defense by both teams or bad offense by both teams" stated Logger Coach Chad Jones. The Loggers went 5-21 in the first quarter while Jefferson College went 3-14. The second quarter saw the Loggers pick up the pace offensively and put 20 points on the board in the period. Freshman Taylor Blehm once again provided a spark off the bench for the Loggers hitting several key baskets late in the half. Blehm scored 13 points in the first half. The Loggers lead 30-23 at the half.
The second half was a back and forth contest. Each team scored 16 points in the third quarter. Lincoln Land increased its lead to as much as 15, but Jefferson answered with an 8-0 run to make it close again. In the fourth quarter, Jefferson managed to cut the lead to four points. Lincoln Land quickly responded to extend the lead back to 12. The final three minutes of the game saw the Loggers make key free throws to close out the game and win 69-59. "A lot of things went wrong tonight. We had to battle some adversity and overcome some things. I'm proud that we found a way to win while things weren't going our way" said Jones.
Lincoln Land was lead in scoring by Sam Lindhorst with 19 points. Megan Harrell and Taylor Blehm both chipped in 13. Harrell led the Loggers with 12 rebounds. Lindhorst assisted on seven Logger field goals to lead the team. Lincoln Land improves to 9-0 on the season and will play on the road again Monday night.
