For the first time in Women' s Soccer history, the Lincoln Land Loggers secured a spot in the Region 24 Championship game after a narrow 1-0 win over Kaskaskia College (7-4-3) on Saturday in Springfield, Illinois. Improving their record to 14-2, the Loggers showed resilience in a tightly contested semi-final match.
The first half remained scoreless despite the Loggers' strong offensive efforts, tallying 13 shots and five corner kicks. Kaskaskia's defense held steady, keeping the game level heading into halftime.
In the 58th minute of the second half, Elle Walker came off the bench to provide a spark and a different look against the Blue Angel defenders and she and made an immediate impact. Taking a pass from Sophia Smith, Walker found just enough space to slip the ball inside the front post, putting the Loggers up 1-0. The team held onto their lead for the remainder of the game, securing the win and a chance to play for the region title.
The Loggers now turn their attention to the Region 24 Championship game against the #3 Nationally ranked Heartland Hawks, scheduled for Sunday, November 3, at noon at the Bloomington High School Athletic Complex.
