The #14 ranked Loggers went on the road for the second game in the Region 4/ Region 24 Classic at Parkland College. The Loggers came away with a hard fought 67-51 victory over Moraine Valley College. The Loggers jumped out to a quick 11-4 lead forcing a Moraine timeout. The Cyclones then went on a 9-2 run of their own forcing a Logger timeout. Lincoln Land struggled early with the Cyclones extended two three zone. "They really had us flustered. We were simply throwing the ball to them." stated Logger head coach Chad Jones. The Loggers managed to hold a one point lead at the half with the score being 24-23. The Loggers committed 14 first half turnovers.
The second half saw the Loggers come out aggressively and extend the lead to ten points, only to have Moraine cut it back to three. Eventually the Loggers full court pressure caused problems and force several Cyclone turnovers. The Loggers slowly started extending their lead and lead by as much as 17.
The Loggers were lead in scoring and rebounding by Marley Smith with a 15 point 12 rebound double double. Smith also managed to lead the Loggers with six assists. Freshman Avrie Schmidt scored 14 points on seven of eleven shooting as the only other Logger in double digits. Point guard Elynn Peterson pulled down nine rebounds on the night. "It was an odd night. Our post lead is in assists and our point guard had nine rebounds" stated Jones.
The Loggers improve to 2-0 and will travel to St. Louis on Wednesday to take on St. Louis Community College.
