Lady Loggers fall behind late and lose to Illinois Central College

The #3 ranked Lincoln Land Loggers faced off against the #13 Illinois Central College Cougars and fell 70-66 at Cass Gymnasium.  Lincoln Land scored the first basket of the game, but quickly saw Illinois Central go on a 9-0 run before Logger coach Chad Jones called an early time out.  Lincoln Land managed to score only 11 points in the first period and trailed 21-11 at the end of one.

The second quarter was nearly the exact opposite of the first, in that Lincoln Land got its offense rolling and switched it's defense to a 2-3 zone that frustrated the Cougars.  Lincoln Land scored 23 points in the period and held ICC to just 10.  Jolene Bueker scored 9 points for the Loggers in the period.  Lincoln Land was ahead 34-31 at the half.

The second half was a hotly contested battle that saw multiple lead changes.  ICC went on a 9-0 run behind three 3 point field goals to take a 48-52 lead at the end of the third period.  Lincoln Land would battle back and take a one point lead, but a quick 3 by Illinois Central put the Cougars back on top by two.  Lincoln Land eventually cut the lead to one point with a minute to go and got the defensive stop.  Unfortunately, the Loggers immediately turned the ball over and ICC score.  Making five out of six free throws down the stretch, the Cougars pulled out the 70-66 win.

"Our crowd was amazing today.  What an atmosphere." Stated Logger Coach Chad Jones. " Our kids battled all day, as did theirs.  Every time we play them it's a dog fight, but it's so much fun."  The Loggers were lead by Katryel Clark scoring 18 points.  Sadie Bueker had 16, Jolene Bueker 11, and Maclayne Taylor contributed 10 points respectively.  Katryel Clark lead the Loggers with 10 rebounds.  Lincoln Land falls to 25-3 on the season with just two games remaining.  The Loggers play their final regular season home game Wednesday against John Wood College at 5:30 pm.
