Huge first half propels women’s basketball

The #3 ranked Lincoln Land women's basketball team took on Black Hawk College on Monday afternoon at Cass Gym and won 89-72.  The Loggers started the game slowly and found themselves down 9-6 before a quick time out.  After the timeout, the Loggers used full court pressure to cause six Black Hawk turnovers. This, along with solid defense, allowed the Loggers to outscore Black Hawk 28-11 in the quarter.  The second quarter was much of the same as the Loggers had a 35 point outburst.  Lincoln Land was using full court pressure to cause turnovers, which lead to easy baskets.  The half time score was 63-33 in favor of the Loggers.

The second half saw Lincoln Land play every player in a game that got sloppy at times.  The Loggers built a quick lead off of three consecutive 3 point baskets to start the half.  The quick three's and a transition basket allowed Lincoln Land to take a 41 point lead.  The Black Hawk Braves would not go away though, and slowly chipped away at the Logger lead.  With the Lincoln Land starters on the bench the Loggers were outscored 23-11 in the fourth quarter.   Despite the quarter, Lincoln Land held on for a 89-72 win to move them to 18-1 on the season.  "We did some great things in the open court tonight, especially on defense." Stated Logger coach Chad Jones.  "We let the game get sloppy late, so we need to work on finishing things out a bit better."

The Loggers saw all thirteen players score in the game.  Lincoln Land was lead by Katryel Clark with 14 points.  Maclayne Taylor and Hannah Wallen each contributed 12 points apiece respectively.  The Loggers were lead by Clark with 11 rebounds.  Jolene Bueker contributed eight rebounds to go along with her nine points.  Havily Dulin and Hannah Wallen each had six assists.  Maclayne Taylor and Jolene Bueker each had three steals.  The Loggers assisted on 19 field goals and had 16 steals in the game.

The Loggers return home on Thursday at 5:30 to take on Kishwaukee College.  This game is a make up game of a previously scheduled contest that was not played due to weather.
