The #5 Lincoln Land women's basketball team defeated John Wood Community College 71-63 at Cass Gym in the first round of the women's Region 24 Basketball Tournament. Lincoln Land started the game hot with Havilyn Dulin scoring the games first 8 points and caused John Wood to call a quick timeout down 8-0. The Trailblazers responded scoring 12 unanswered points with Kelsi Dishman hitting two quick threes. The Loggers struggled the remainder of the quarter and trailed 15-12.
The second quarter saw Lincoln Land pick up its scoring behind eight points from freshman Katryel Clark. The Loggers took a 30-28 advantage into half time. "We missed several easy shots in the quarter. It was frustrating, as we were turning them over, but not capitalizing on the turnovers." Stated Logger coach Chad Jones.
The second half saw John Wood hit two quick threes to take a four point lead before a quick Logger timeout. After this, LLCC settled in and slowly chipped away and began to put some distance between the team and eventually held a 10 point lead. The Blazers managed to hit a couple of threes late in the 4th quarter, but LLCC matched those scores and eventually won 71-63. "It wasn't pretty. But, It is March, and moving on is all that matters at this point." Stated Logger Coach Chad Jones.
Lincoln Land was lead in scoring by Havilyn Dulin with 24 points. Katryel Clark chipped in 16 and Madison Jones had 10. Katryel Clark lead with 11 rebounds, Jolene Bueker had 9, and Hannah Wallen had 4. Nicole Robinson, who was in her first game back from injury since the last time the Loggers faced John Wood, had 5 assists.
Lincoln Land improves to 26-3 and moves on to play Lake Land College in the Region 24 semifinals. Lake Land is one of the three losses the Loggers have suffered this year. Lake Land defeated the Loggers 72-69 at Lake Land in November.
