Women’s basketball starts season with a victory

The Lincoln Land Women's Basketball team started their season off with a victory against Southeastern Iowa. The loggers never trailed throughout the contest and lead 19-12 in the first quarter. The second quarter saw the loggers extend the lead to 17 points before Southeastern made a late run to cut the loggers lead to 38-31. Katryel Clark scores the loggers first 7 points to begin the 3rd quarter. Defensively the loggers held Southeastern to 10 3rd quarter points and extend the lead to 58-41.  Lincoln Land outscored the Blackhawks 17-8 during the 4th quarter with Madison Jernigan draining 2 three's to seal the loggers victory of 75-49. Coach Jones was happy with the defensive effort the loggers showed with the second half. "I thought our defensive effort the second half was the turning point of the game, it was nice to see our defensive intensity create 25 turnovers. Our defense is what we really put a heavy emphasis on in practice. It was a great team win and there are things that we can work on to make ourselves better, but it was a great start to this year's season." 

Katryel Clark lead the Loggers with a double double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Madison Jones lead the loggers in scoring with 22 points and 5 steals. Havilyn Dulin pulled down 7 rebounds and finished out 3 assists and Jolene Bueker finished with 6 rebounds. Hannah Wallen finished the game with 3 assists. Madison Jernigan finished with 9 points and 4 steals. 

As a team the loggers went 27-58 for 47%. Loggers shot 4-15 for 27% from the three point line and went 17-26 for 65% from the free throw line. Lincoln Land forced 25 turnovers and out rebounded Southeastern 41-38. 

Lincoln Land is 1-0 at the start of the 2018-2019 season.
