The Loggers volleyball team played three matches Saturday at the Logger Invitational. In the first match, the Loggers needed four sets to dispatch the Warriors of Rend Lake. Lincoln Land was led by a dominant hitting performance by Kiley Brunstein (16-2-33) with Molly Tauke chipping in with 15 kills as seven different Loggers registered kills to account for Lainey Jackson's 45 assists.
The Loggers faced the Sauk Valley Skyhawks in the second contest, winning in straight sets behind tough serving from freshman Taylor Thomas (3 aces, no errors) and an all-around performance by Olivia Dour (12 kills, 3 blocks, 1 ace)
LLCC's final contest was a barnburner against John A. Logan College, a five-set victory coming after the Loggers fell behind two sets to one. The Loggers were led by Lainey Jackson's 45 assists and 2 aces while three Loggers had double-digits in kills (Brunstein, Tauke, and Dour), though Brunstein and Tauke were held to hitting under .100 for the match.
"Logan was tough. They run the fastest juco middles in the Midwest and we couldn't time the block well, then we struggled with hitting it through their big block. When we weren't passing well, it really put our outsides at a big disadvantage," Coach Dietz said afterwards. "The thing is, we got good hitting from all three of our middles. Olivia [Dour] hit .425, Maree [Taig] hit .750 and Ashley [Melton] hit .500 and combined for 23 kills. I'll take that."
