MBB Downs Elgin CC 81-50 in Harry S. Truman Tip Off Clasic

LLCC - 81
Elgin Community College - 50

Lincoln Land travelled to Chicago to take part in the Harry S. Truman Tip Off Classic and dominated the Elgin Community College Spartans, winning 81-50.

Lincoln Land started quick, racing out to a 9-0 lead. The Spartans were able to cut the lead as low as 3 at one point, but the Loggers turned it back on eventually leading by as many as 20 before closing the half up 45-27. Lincoln Land methodically put the game away in the second half. The Logger lead was cut under 20 for one possession only and they led by as many as 35.

The Loggers' two main problems on the night were fouls and stretches of cold jump shooting. The only statistical categories Lincoln Land failed to be better than the Spartans were turnovers committed (13-12), steals (5-4), and free throw percentage (67-61). The Loggers were otherwise the stronger team. Lincoln Land held Elgin to 7% from behind the arc while shooting 37%. They outshot Elgin 45%-29% from the field and out-rebounded the Spartans 55-31. Every Logger who played also scored.

Lincoln Land was led by another complete performance from sophomore Eddie Longmeyer who had 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists which were all game highs. Three other Loggers were in double digits sophomore Harold Robertson and freshman Alex Portwood both had 13 and sophomore Riley Spencer added 10. Sophomore Tyler Burdine had a solid performance with 9 points and 10 rebounds.

Coach Jones shared after the game, "I'm proud of our guys tonight. We talked all week at practice that if we play hard and do things our way we would get a win. Our guys bought in and we completely controlled the game. I'm most proud of the effort we showed from start to finish."

Lincoln Land improves to 2-0 on the year. They continue play in the Tip Off Classic tomorrow against host Harry S. Truman at 3 p.m.
