LLCC - 70
St Louis Community College - 57
The Lincoln Land Loggers men's basketball team traveled to St. Louis and came away victorious over the Archers of St. Louis Community, 70-57.
Lincoln Land struggled their last two games out, but finally were able to get back to their winning ways. Led by four St. Louis natives, the Loggers never trailed on their way to victory. Lincoln Land had a hot start and raced out to an early lead that was as high as 10 in the first half. The Archers were able to close the half on a 12-4 run and tie the game right before half when Freshman Dino Mehmodovic tipped in a rebound as the halftime buzzer sounded to give the Loggers a 31-29 lead at half.
After a three point basket to begin the half the Loggers were able to slowly rebuild their lead to as high as 15. St. Louis cut their deficit to 4 on two separate occasions, but were never able to get any closer than that. Lincoln Land was able to knock down open shots and free throws down the stretch to pull away to the final score of 70-57.
The Loggers had three St. Louis area players as their scorers in double digits. The trio was led by freshman Edin "Dino" Mehmodovic who reached a double-double with a career high 17 points and pulling down a team high 10 rebounds. He was joined by sophomore Justin Thomas with 16 and freshmen Eddie Longmeyer who had 13 and 6 rebounds. Lincoln Land controlled the game by only committing 8 turnovers, to STLCC's 13, and outshot the Archers from all aspects of the floor.
"This was a must win game for us to get any momentum with our upcoming conference games. We had not played well the last two times out and tonight we finally we reversed that trend. It was great for our St. Louis kids to play so well in front of their home town fans." - Coach Chad Jones following the victory.
This was the second matchup of the year between these two teams after the Loggers defeated the Archers 76-61 at home in Cass Gymnasium earlier in the year.
The road is not any easier for the Loggers, who moved to 11-5 on the season, as the travel Wednesday to take on Rend LakeCommunity College in a Region game.
