LLCC finished the Marshalltown Invitational with two wins, sweeping Northern Iowa Area and Allen Community Colleges.  In the first match against NIACC, the contest started balanced as the two sides exchanged fifteen sideouts before LLCC could push a lead to two points, and extended it to eight behind the blocking of Sammie Voils who blocked three balls in the first set, giving LLCC a 25-17 win.
 
The second game was tight throughout with LLCC only breaking to more than a two-point lead at 19-17 behind a series of kills by Brittani Tabbert, leading to a 25-21 victory.  The Loggers carried the momentum into the third set, taking a commanding lead behind a second string of Tabbert kills and aggressive serving by Tiffany Sunderlin with LLCC walking away to a 25-12 win.
 
Coach Jim Dietz reflected the double wins today, "I was worried how we came out to start with the exchange of sideouts.  Sometimes if you get a close contest, that can bite you at the end.  It didn't, and really, in reflection, it was just an outstanding job by both teams of siding out.  I was happy with our hitting--we hit well over .300 for the match and had great results from Perinar, Sunderlin, and Tabbert."  (Tabbert's 18 kills are the most in a match for LLCC since Haley Maxwell put down 23 against John A Logan in 2011)
 
In the second contest, LLCC led from start to finish with aggressive serving and blocking, sweeping the Red Devils.  Brenna Perinar was the standout, tallying 13 kills and 4 blocks while the three Logger middle hitters combined to hit .400.  "I was really happy with our serving.  We kept Allen from getting any rhythm with their offense which made it easier for us to put up a blocking wall, and I think our total blocks shows that."
