The Lincoln Land Logger men's basketball team travelled to Godfrey to take on the Trailblazers of Lewis and Clark Community College and came away with a 92-75 MWAC victory.
The Loggers put on an offensive clinic shooting a season high 50% from the field going 28-56 from the floor. Remarkably, the Loggers ended shooting 66% from three going 14-21 for a season high in percentage and a season high in made threes. The fourteen made three were the most the Loggers have made in a game since January 16, 2017 and potentially a record setting percentage, the best it has been in the last 12 seasons. The hot shooting started from the beginning of the contest, putting in three three-pointers in the first four minutes alone to give LLCC an early lead. From there the teams traded the lead back and forth a few times with Lewis and Clark first putting together an 8-0 run to take the lead before the Loggers responded with a 7-0 of their own not long and a 14-3 run to take a 38-35 lead, something they would never give up. With two minutes remaining in the first half Lewis and Clark tied the contest back up at 40 before two late buckets, including a closing second three pointers from Camory Hall gave LLCC the 45-40 lead at the half.Â
The Loggers took a 50-41 lead early in the second half and looked poised to run away with the game. The Trailblazers closed the gap getting the next two scores to get back within 4 points and eventually got as close as 1, putting the game back in doubt. After trading scores again the Loggers put together the decisive run. Three three-pointers propelled a 13-0 Logger run and suddenly a 1 point game was a 17 point lead. The Trailblazers never got back closer than 12 on the way to the final of 92-75.Â
Lincoln Land snapped a two-game losing streak to get to 5-6 on the season and 2-2 in MWAC play. Part of the good shooting night was driven by the Loggers ability to share the ball. Lincoln Land passed out a season high 19 assists, the most in nearly a calendar year. Keshaun Harlan led the Loggers in assists ending with a career high 8, more in a game than any Loggers on the roster. Harlan came up just of a double-double ending with 10 points. Three other Loggers got past the 10 point mark led by Jalen Ashley who ended with a career high 26, going for over 20 for the fourth time this year. Ashley put in 4 threes total, including two during the stretch the Loggers pulled away. Ashley also pulled in a career high 11 rebounds to earn his first double-double of his college career. Jean-Piere Villegas went a perfect 5-5 from the field and 4-4 from behind the arc to get to 14 points. Jaylen Lockhart came off the bench to add 13 of his own.Â
Lincoln Land comes back home for a Saturday afternoon matchup with the Snappers of Spoon River College at 3 PM in Cass Gymnasium. Â
