Loggers Take Down #7 Lake Land at Home

The #4 ranked Lincoln Land women's basketball team scored a huge victory over rival #7 Lake Land College in a battle of top ten teams.  The final score saw the Loggers on top 65-57.  In a very evenly matched game, the Loggers and Lakers traded baskets for the entire first quarter.  Lake Land held a slim 18-16 lead at the first intermission.  The second quarter was much of the same.  Both teams struggled to score.  Lake Land came out in an uncharacteristic matchup zone that gave the Loggers problems. "Coach Johnson at Lake Land is a fantastic coach.  He always seems to throw a wrinkle at you, and tonight it really gave us problems" state Logger coach Chad Jones.  The Loggers were down 31-29 at the half.  Megan Harrell was the lone offensive bright spot in the first half, scoring 11 points.

The second half saw the Loggers start out hot and take the lead.  Lincoln Land increased the lead to eight, but Lake Land wouldn't go away and came back to tie the game.  The Loggers ended the third period with a four point advantage.  Lincoln Land would extend the lead to eight once again, only for Lake Land to hit a clutch three-point basket.  Ultimately Lincoln Land would make timely plays down the stretch with Alexis Wade making a couple key free throws and Sam Lindhorst pulling down a big rebound on a free throw with 13 second remaining.   Lincoln Land would hold on to win by a score of 65-57.

The Loggers were lead in scoring by Whitney Rumbold with 17 points.  Megan Harrell scored 15 and Alexis Wade scored 11.  Harrell again lead the Loggers with 10 rebounds.  Whitney Rumbold pulled down nine and Sam Lindhorst grabbed eight.  The Loggers improved to 27-2 on the season and 13-2 in the MWAC.  Lincoln Land will play its final regular season game of the year on Saturday at home against John Wood.
