The Lincoln Land men's basketball team took on the Braves of Black Hawk College Moline on Saturday afternoon for their final home game of 2025, but ultimately fell 93-88.
Lincoln Land gave up the first basket of the game, but then raced to a lead they did not give up until the second half. LLCC got their lead to 7 quickly and kept the Braves mostly at bay for much of the first half. However, Black Hawk got to within 2 in the final 5:00 of the half. From that point, the game became one of runs. First, LLCC had a run to grow their lead up to as high as 9, including being up 45-38 under 3:00 to go in the first half. But from there Black Hawk rattled off a 7-0 run to get back to even with :40 to go in the half and for the first time since 0-0. Freshman Jalen Ashley had his second great first half in a row getting 12 points in the first frame; the Ashley was supported by Keshaun Harlan who came off the bench with 10 points.Â
Early in the second half, Black Hawk had the largest run of the game first going on a 7-0 run followed by an 11-0 run, ultimately going on an 18-2 run over 6:30 minutes of game play. Black Hawk lead 68-53 and a game high 15 at that point. The Loggers then were able to begin to chip away. 15 became 8 after a Logger 7-0 run. After the lead ballooned back to 11, the Loggers again got a 7-0 run to get back to 4. To the Braves' credit, each time Lincoln Land got within a bucket of two, Black Hawk was able to get a bucket to keep the Loggers at bay. Finally, under 3:00 the Loggers made the game incredibly tights, getting back to trailing by just 1. After trailing for nearly 18:00 the Loggers were able to tie the game at 88 and made it a brand-new ballgame! The Loggers came charging back with a full head of steam and got a wide open three and a chance to take an enormous lead late, but the attempt went wide. Neither team scored on their next possession, but after a foul Black Hawk made 1 free throw, proving to be the winning point. Lincoln Land had another open attempt go wide and after two more free throws the Loggers had the ball again down 3. After a timeout, one more three-point attempt came up just short and a long pass and layup as time expired hammered home the Black Hawk victory, 93-88.Â
Lincoln Land is nearing full strength, playing 13 players for the first time this season. Jalen Ashley tied for the game, high scoring 25 getting over the 20-point mark for the third game in a row. Harlan finished with 14. Ashely and Harlan also tied for the game high 6 boards. The third Logger with 10+ was Jean-Piere Villegas who ended with 11. A total of 11 Loggers scored on the afternoon.Â
Lincoln Land drops to 3-2 on the season. They travel next Saturday to Wisconsin to take on Bryant and Stratton College before ending with two more games the following week to wrap up semester 1 of play.Â
