#11 Lincoln Land women's basketball team flexed their muscle early in the game against John Wood and came away with an 88-60 victory. The Loggers poured in 27 first quarter points to set the pace. A stingy Lincoln Land defense only surrendered 7 points in the frame.
The second quarter saw Lincoln Land continue to extend their lead over the Blazers. Sophomores Sam Lindhorst and Megan Harrell paced the balanced scoring by hitting 14 and 10 points in the half. Freshman Mae Herman chipped in 9 to send the Loggers into halftime with a 45-18 lead.
Coming out of halftime, John Wood was able to hit four 3 points baskets on their first five possessions. However, Lincoln Land kept pace with four straight 2 points baskets. The Blazers had their best scoring total of the game as they put 22 points on the board compared to Lincoln Land's 21.
Entering the fourth quarter the Loggers were up 66-40, the Loggers ran a patient offense to out score John Wood 22-20 and secure the win 88-60. Lincoln Land had a well balanced offense. All five Loggers starters were in double figures. Sam Lindhorst led the way with 20 points followed by Megan Harrell who had a double/double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Mae Herman had 17 followed by Durbin Thomas and Whitney Rumbold with 10 apiece. Alexis Wade scored 6 points and Ella Guerrero finished with 3. Elynn Peterson and Taylor Blehm both had 2. Sam Lindhorst had 5 assists and 4 steals. Durbin Thomas had a game high 10 assists.
Lincoln Land will play next on Saturday, Feb. 1 against Spoon River. The game will be played at Cass Gym in Springfield, IL at 1:00 pm.
