The game between #9 Lincoln Land and #11 Lake Land came down to the final possession In Overtime. The Loggers had the ball with 22.6 seconds remaining in overtime but were unable to score on three consecutive shots. Sam Lindhorst had the final shot of the possession but her potentially winning effort from the top of the key hit the back of the rim. The 72-70 loss dropped the Loggers to 19-2 overall and 5-2 in MWAC play.
Lake Land started the game on fire. The Lakers took a 21-10 first quarter lead behind effective 3 point shooting. The Loggers offense began to wake up in the second frame. Lincoln Land outscored Lake Land 15-13 behind Freshman Mae Herman. The 5'10 guard hit a three point basket and had 9 points to pull the Loggers to within 34-25 at the half.
The third quarter saw Lake Land's lead extend to 16 points at the 7:55 mark of the period. However, Lincoln Land regrouped to score 18 points in the quarter but still trailed 52-43.
The turning point in the game was in the fourth quarter. The Logger's offense and defense came to life. Lincoln Land was able to cut the deficit and take a 2 point lead at the 2:27 mark. Unfortunately, the Loggers were unable to secure the win as the game ended in a 66-66 tie.
The overtime was a tightly contested battle. Each team had a tough time scoring. The Logger's, as mentioned earlier, had a game winning attempt from the top of the key that just missed as Lincoln Land fell 72-70.
Mae Herman was the games top scorer with 26 points. San Lindhorst finished with 13. Alexis Wade chipped in 8 while Durbin Thomas and Whitney Rumbold each had 7. Megan Harrell had a game high 9 rebounds followed by Sam Lindhorst with 8.
Lincoln Land is back in action Wednesday, Jan. 29 as they travel to Quincy, IL to face Region 24 opponent John Wood in a 5:30 game.
