The Lincoln Land Logger's men's basketball team fell in a Mid-West Athletic Conference game against Danville Area Community College, 79-65 on Saturday afternoon at Cass Gym.
The Lincoln Land Loggers got scoring going on a jumper by AJ Tillman, but that 2-0 score would be the only instance of the Loggers being in front. DACC scored on the very next possession and led the rest of the afternoon, mostly by double digits. Danville put together the next 11 points and the Loggers quickly found themselves down 11-2. LLCC was able to settle into the flow and got back within 3 at 13-10, but a Jaguars 13-0 run made sure that was short lived. Once up double digits, DACC made sure to never let the Loggers get any closer. The halftime score of 34-23 was the closest it would be the rest of the game.Â
Danville started the second half on an 8-0 run and overall went on a 17-4 run in the first five minutes of the second half to put the game beyond any Logger comeback. Danville led by as many as 24 and the closest LLCC could get was 14 on a few occasions. Danville cruised to the final of 79-65.
Lincoln Land's 65 points were the most they were able to score since December 17. The loss also broke a 3-game home winning streak for LLCC. Most statistics were in favor of the Jaguars, who shot better from the field (55%-36%) and out rebounded LLCC (35-24). Points in the paint was the defining stat as Danville won the battle 46-12. Three point shooting was where the Loggers held the advantage shooting 11-31 making 6 more threes and shooting 10% better than DACC.Â
Most of the three point advantage came from the three highest scoring Loggers. Sophomore Camden Nelson led the way for the Loggers with 4 threes and a team high 18 points, the 10
th time this season Nelson has been in double digits. Sophomore Kendall Lavender ended with 13 points on 3-5 from three points line, just the second time this season Lavender has hit more than 1 three pointer in a game. Freshmen Stephan Braun also put in 3 three pointers for the third time this season to end with 9 points. Freshman AJ Tillman just missed eclipsing 10 points finish with 9 points, but a game high 6 assists.
Lincoln Land falls to 3-14 overall and 1-3 in MWAC conference play. Their next chance will be at home Wednesday night against Parkland the #7 team in NJCAA Division II standings.Â
