Loggers Season Comes to an End in Regional Play

G1 - John Wood

The Loggers couldn't keep up with John Wood Community College and fell 11-3 on Friday. John Wood Community College got on the board in the third inning after Garrett Meyer hit a solo home run to center field. Ethan Hurst hit a sacrifice fly, which helped the Loggers tie the game at one in the bottom of the third. A single by Ben Kasparie gave John Wood Community College the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fourth.

Caleb Royer homered to left field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth for the Loggers. Kevin Martinez earned the win for John Wood Community College. The right-handed pitcher surrendered seven hits and three runs over six innings, striking out six and walking four. Mitch Dye took the loss for the Loggers. The right-handed pitcher went five and one-third innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits, striking out three and walking five. Royer provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Loggers with two runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Wandel Campana, Chase Jetel, Grant Pohlman, Andrew Randazzo, Royer, Andrew Hendrickson, and Hurst each collected one hit for the Loggers. The Loggers turned one double play in the game.

John Wood Community College collected 10 hits in the game. Payton Mansfield and Haidyn McGill each collected two hits for John Wood Community College. Meyer and Mansfield were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for John Wood Community College. The Loggers welcome Illinois Central College on Friday for their next game.

The Loggers's effort to come back from down four runs in the fourth inning came up just short, as they fell 6-5 to Illinois Central College on Friday. The Loggers closed the gap by scoring on a sacrifice fly, a ground out, a single, and a single. The Loggers lost despite out-hitting Illinois Central College seven to six. Hunter Moser led the Loggers with three hits. Illinois Central College were the first to get on the board in the third when Nick Piazza hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Gavin Thompson earned the win for Illinois Central College. The starting pitcher allowed seven hits and five runs (two earned) over eight innings, striking out three and walking three. Jack Wajda took the loss for the Loggers. The starting pitcher went seven innings, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out two and walking one. Gage Burdick earned the save.

Moser, the number seven hitter for the Loggers, led the way with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 3-for-4 on the day. Andrew Hendrickson collected two hits for the Loggers in five at bats.
Jacob Castleman led Illinois Central College with three runs batted in. They went 2-for-4 on the day. Tyler Bishop and Castleman each collected two hits for Illinois Central College. Illinois Central College turned two double plays in the game.
