The Lincoln Land Loggers men's basketball season came to a close in Danville tonight in the first round of the NJCAA Region 24 Championship. Danville Area Community College held on to beat the Loggers 56-52.
The Jaguars on Danville Area Community College and the Loggers had played twice this season and split the two contests with a win each. In the first meeting DACC came out at the start and began to pull away nearly immediately on their way to victory, in the second the two played close for much of the first half. Tonight appeared it would go as the first meeting did. The Jaguars pounced out to a 10-0 lead and forced Lincoln Land to use a timeout to settle down. Over the next stretch the Loggers were able to outscore DACC 20-9 and take a 20-19 lead, their first of the game. The two played within a bucket or two the rest of the way and the Jaguars went into the halftime break leading 27-24.Â
The second half started much the same way as the first. DACC jumped out to a 38-26 lead after another hot start, but LLCC battled back and took a 44-42 lead about 7:00 later. With just 5:00 to go, the two teams found themselves tied at 46. The last 5:00 have been cruel this season to Lincoln Land who always found themselves on the wrong side of that final stretch, seeming running out of gas or missing on opportunities. DACC found an open shooter with 4:40 on the clock and he hit an enormous three-point basket to put Danville ahead, what would eventually be for good. Danville scored on three straight trips down the floor while Lincoln Land only mustered one score and DACC led 53-48. The Loggers made it interesting and tighter, getting a bucket up the floor a possession later to get back within 3. The Loggers failed to score and DACC split two free throws to lead 54-50. LLCC had three separate possessions at 54-50 and finally got a tip in score after two offensive rebounds to get back to 54-52 with :09.3 left. DACC successfully inbounded the ball and made both free throws to get ahead 56-52. LLCC missed one final attempt and the final buzzer on the season sounded for Lincoln Land.Â
On the evening and on the season, Camren Kincaid finished as the leading scorer for the Loggers ending with 23, his highest since Dec. 11
th and getting to 20+ for the 9
th time in the season. Kincaid also ended with a double-double getting to 10 rebounds, also a team high. Scoring came at a premium as no other Logger got to the 10+ mark. The Young brothers Jermontre (7) and Jermale Jr. (8) were the only others to put in more than 4. Â
Lincoln Land's season comes to a close with a 12-15 record, their most wins in the last 6 seasons.Â
