Loggers Close out the Year on a High Note

Lincoln Land closed the regular season with a big win, taking down conference foe Danville Area Community College, 70-53.

Lincoln Land celebrated their 10 sophomores prior to tonight's contest. 9 of those sophomores have been at LLCC for at least two years. That alone gave the Loggers a lot to celebrate on Saturday, but the celebrations did not stop there. From the tip the Loggers seemed to control the game.  Although the Jaguars of DACC were able to take a few leads in the first half Lincoln Land was ahead most of the first half. With Lincoln Land ahead 17-15, the Loggers put together one of their first runs of the day putting together an 8-3 run and getting up 7 and looking to extend that advantage. The Loggers hit a wall with scoring with 2:30 to go and failed to get another point. DACC was able to get just one bucket and both teams went scoreless over the final 2:00 of the first half and the halftime score was LLCC ahead 28-24.

In the opening moments of the second half Lincoln Land built their lead up to a game high 9 with a 35-26 advantage. At that time, the Jaguars were the ones poised to make a run, storming on a 9-0 run and tied the game up 3:00 later. Lincoln Land responded with what proved to be the fatal run. Lincoln Land got the next 11 points and went on a 15-2 run to find themselves up 13 points with just over 7:00 remaining. DACC got themselves back within 8, but the Loggers hit the final push with an 8-0 to put the game away and the Jaguars never got within closer than 13. Lincoln Land was again celebrating after the final horn, securing the 70-53 victory.

Lincoln Land saw four Loggers get to double digits, tying a season high. Axel Laby came of the bench for a stellar performance of 18 points, his fourth double digit effort in five game and just two short of his career high of 20. Kyle Leonard went 4-4 from behind the arc and poured in 17. Jermontre Young and Camren Kincaid each ended with 11 as well. Dane Foster put together a solid stat game with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists (both team highs).

Lincoln Land ends the regular season with a record of 12-14 on the season and 6-6 in MWAC play. Post-season begins Wednesday, again against the Jaguars, but this time the Loggers will travel to Danville for the contest.
