John Wood Community College - 68
Lincoln Land - 62
Lincoln Land hosted their annual Homecoming game on Wednesday night but the Blazers of John Wood Community College ruined the party by beating the Loggers 68-62.Â
Lincoln Land held the first lead after getting the first bucket of the game to go up 2-0, but immediately fell behind two possessions later and played catch up for much of the first half. Lincoln Land took one other lead in the first half when they fought back from 7 down to get ahead 23-21. John Wood closed the half 9-2 and went into the half back ahead at 29-25.Â
Lincoln Land came out of the half a different team than they ended the first and were able to flip the score in the first 8:00 of the second half. The Loggers snatched a 43-41 advantage with 11:00 to go in the game. Unfortunately, that lead was short lived as John Wood took it back just a few possession later and held it for the rest of the contest. The Loggers have struggled to close late and tonight fit that mold. With 4:00 to go the Loggers were as close as they would get, trailing 56-52. John Wood got the next two buckets to pull away. LLCC was able to get back within 4 at 60-56 with under 2:00 to play, but were unable to get the stops and scores to get the game back to a one possession game. The Loggers also came up short or wide on some important free throws that could have put more pressure on John Wood. Although, the Loggers did get two more buckets, the Blazers knock in enough free throws to stay ahead. Eventually the team traded a few points in this final minute to get to the final score of 68-62.Â
John Wood dominated the stat book as well as the scoreboard having the two leading scorers (both with 19), outshooting Lincoln Land from all three levels of the floor, and pulling in 13 more rebounds. The only stat that saw a major Logger advantage was that they committed only 8 turnovers to the Blazers 16, but the shooting and rebounding disadvantages were too much to turn those extra chances into fortuitous opportunities.Â
Axel Laby came off the bench to pour in 10 first half points and ending with a team high 13 on the evening. Camren Kincaid ended as the only other Logger in double digits with 12. Kincaid continues to stuff all stats by also grabbing 6 boards, and passing out a pair of assists, while securing a pair of steals as well.Â
Lincoln Land stumbles to below .500 again, this time at 11-12 on the season. They head out for their last conference road game of the season Saturday in Champaign against Parkland.
