Loggers Lose Late Lead

The Lincoln Land Logger men's basketball team held a lead as late as under 2:00 to play, but fell behind and could not keep pace in those closing minutes and lost to the Bobcats of Bryant and Stratton College from Wisconsin, 60-52.

The Saturday afternoon contest was a defensive battle as neither team got to double digits until nearly 8:00 into the afternoon. Halfway through the Loggers still trailed 10-5 before they got a few buckets and were able to tie the game at 19. Right before half the Bobcats got the final basket of the first half and went in to the break up 21-19.

Out of half AJ Tillman got two buckets in two possessions and the Loggers took their first second half lead in four games. From there the two teams would pass the lead back and forth. Bryant and Stratton held the largest of those leads only at three as the teams played over 18:00 within one possession of each other. With 3:30 to go Camden Nelson knocked in a 3 that gave the Loggers a 49-48 advantage, Ian Case later added a free throw and with 2:47 the Loggers were ahead 50-48. Bryant and Stratton rattled off a 12-0 run to get ahead 60-50 and make sure LLCC had no chance to come back. LLCC got a last second bucket to get the score to the final of 60-52.

Free throws and turnovers doomed the Loggers. LLCC went 11-21 from the free throw line and turned the ball over 24 times to Bryant and Stratton's 12. Those two stats were the difference on the afternoon.

Camden Nelson faced face-guarding most of the evening, but still ended the night as the Logger leading scorer ending with a team high 13. Freshmen Joshua Banks also got a career high 10 to be the only other Logger to get to double digits. Michael Tyler led the game with 10 rebounds a career high for him.

Lincoln Land stumbled to 0-10 on the season. The good news is that their next opportunity comes quickly as the remain home Monday evening to take on Quincy University JV team.
