Lincoln Land men's basketball team lost a Wednesday evening game to the Archers of St. Louis Community College, 68-54.
Lincoln Land has had poor starts over the last few games, but avoided that on Wednesday evening. The Loggers hit four threes in the first four minutes of play and were up 12-8 going in to the first media timeout. That was the lone stretch of lead the Loggers would have. STLCC responded to this Logger lead with a 6-0 run to get ahead and never relinquished that lead. The Archers did lead by double digits before LLCC made it a closer margin going in to half. At the break St. Louis lead 37-30.
Lincoln Land got the first bucket of the second half, but the Archers rattled off a 10-2 run and lead by double digits for much of the remainder of the game. Lincoln Land got a three pointer from Gus McCrary to cut the deficit to 7 with under 6:00 to play. However, another Archer scoring run, this time 10-0, put the game away for good. The last chance the Loggers had was trailing by 12 with under 2:00 to play and a fast break opportunity did not gain any points. The Archers led by as many as 18, but walked away with the 14 point win at 68-54.
In their ninth game, Lincoln Land got their 7
th different leading scoring of the season. This time, Kendall Lavender led the team with 14 with a career high 4 three pointers. Camden Nelson, the Logger's leading scorer on the season, was the only other player in double digits ending with 13. Freshmen AJ Tillman was a major factor in all facets of the game nearly nabbing a triple double. Tillman ended with 8 points, and game highs in rebounds (9) and assists (8) to tempo the Logger offense.
Lincoln Land falls to 0-9 on the season with he loss. Their next opportunity remains at home, Saturday against Bryant and Stratton (WI) College at 3 pm.
