The # 9 ranked Lincoln Land women's basketball team defeated a feisty Carl Sandburg squad 66-60. The Loggers came back from a 38-36 halftime deficit to take their third win in three games. Foul trouble for Lincoln Land plagued them throughout the first half.
The Loggers were able to overcome the Sandburg lead during the third quarter. Sophomore guard Sam Lindhorst got Lincoln Land rolling in the third period. She was able to break down the defense and score three in the paint pull up jumpers. A couple of baskets by Megan Harrell pushed the Loggers to a game high 9 point advantage.
Entering the final frame, Sandburg made a run to cut into the Logger's lead. The Chargers actually took a two point lead midway through the the fourth quarter. However, a basket by Sophomore Whitney Rumbold pulled the Loggers even. The turning point in the contest came on a personal foul on Sandburg followed by a technical foul. Lindhorst was fouled shooting a 3 which was followed up by the technical foul. She calmly went 4-5 from the line. From that point on, the Loggers got two defensive stops and held on for the 66-60 win.
Sam Lindhorst had a game high 25 points and 4 steals. Megan Harrell poured in 11 points while Whitney Rumbold finished with 10 and a team high 5 rebounds. Sophomore guard Durbin Thomas added 10 points.
Lincoln Land improves to 3-0 and will travel to Chicago this Saturday to face Truman College in a 12:00 pm contest.
