The Lincoln Land Loggers tried to avenge an earlier season loss tot he Lakers of Lake Land College and although they kept the game closer, Lake Land walked away victorious 76-65.
These two teams met to open the season earlier this year and Lake Land raced out to a 19-0 lead before the Loggers got their first point. Lincoln Land avoided that poor start, but the Lakers still were able to get ahead and never relinquish the advantage. Although Lake Land got ahead, the Loggers did not let the game get too far away early on. Lincoln Land kept pace, remaining within 5-10 points for much of the first half. After the under 8:00 media timeout, Lake Land rattled off an 8-0 run and found themselves up a game high 16 points at 34-18 and forcing the Loggers into a quick timeout. The best stretch of the evening followed for the Loggers. In the closing 4:30 of the first half Lincoln Land went on 18-5 run fueled by three three-pointers from Camden Nelson including one as the halftime buzzer sounded. The Loggers trailed by only 3 at 39-36 going into half.Â
The second half again saw Lake Land expanded out their lead, this time to 14 in the first half of the second frame. Lincoln Land again dug deep and put together an 8:00 stretch where they held the Lakers scoreless and got the game as close as 55-51 with just under 10:00 remaining in the game. The Logger run ran out of steam there and LLCC was never able to get any closer. Lake Land pushed the lead back out to around 10 where it hung for the closing minutes of the game.Â
Statistically the teams were fairly equal in most categories, where the game was won was that Lake Land made 7 more shots on the evening fuel largely by a rebound advantage of 18, 11 offensive rebounds produced 17 second chance points.Â
Camden Nelson, for the second game in a row ,was the leading scorer in the contest. Nelson ended with 17 points, knocking in 4 threes and going 5-5 from the free throw line. 9 Loggers played and 8 of them scored at least 5 points. Joshua Banks had the best scoring output of his young career ending with 9.Â
Lincoln Land falls to 0-5 on the season. The Loggers travel to Bloomington in search of the first victory of the season where they will take on the JV squad of Illinois Wesleyan.Â
