Lincoln Land - 74
Spoon River - 54
The Lincoln Land Logger men's basketball team had to wait an extra day to start Mid-West Athletic Conference play, but did not let the delay slow down their play as they ran away from the Snappers of Spoon River College 74-54.Â
The Loggers trailed at 2-0 and 4-3 and then took control of the lead and never looked back. Kyle Leonard paced the Loggers in the first frame putting in 10, including 2 three pointers. Despite the Logger's leading scorer being held to only 2 points int he first half, Lincoln Land methodically pulled further and further away. The second half saw the Snappers make a small run getting back to as close as 5, but Lincoln Land responded with a 8-2 run to get back ahead by double digits. That proved to be the only real pressure that Spoon River was able to muster as Lincoln Land was able to push their lead out to 20 in the closing minutes of the contest.Â
Lincoln Land dominated statistically as well, shooting better from the field, three, and free throw line while also out-rebounding Spoon River. The Loggers also dished out more assists with less turnovers that the Snappers. 9 Loggers scored on the afternoon with three getting into double digits. Jermotre Young led the Loggers by not only scoring more than 10 for the first time in his college career, but also pouring in 17 points. Young also passed out 6 assists and pulled in 5 rebounds to have a true stat-stuffing game. Leonard ended with 3 threes and a got to 16 points for the third time in six games. Brandenn Robinson came off the bench with 10, half of the Loggers 20 from the bench. The bench proved to be the difference in the afternoon where Lincoln Land's bench outscored the Snappers 20-2.Â
Lincoln Land gets back to .500 with the win as they now sit at 6-6. The Loggers are also 1-0 in MWAC play and 2-0 in Region 24 seeding games. Lincoln Land starts a stretch of four straight road games by heading down I-55 to Missouri to take on NJCAA Division 1 Mineral Area Community College Monday afternoon.Â
