Women's Basketball Take Down Parkland at Cass Gym

The Lincoln Land women's basketball team played to #9 ranked Parkland College and held on for a 63-58 victory at Cass Gymnasium.

The Loggers jumped out early and outscored the Cobras 23-17 in the first period. The second period saw the two teams evenly matched, however Lincoln Land held a slight scoring advantage in the period 18-16. The Loggers took an eight point lead into halftime. Coming out of the break, both teams were sluggish offensively and only scored a combined 17 points in the period.

"I'd like to say that both teams were playing good defense, but neither team could get a shot to fall" stated Logger coach Chad Jones. The final period things intensified.  Both teams struggled to score and the game became very physical down the stretch.

It was going to be a battle of rebounds and ball possession. The Cobras managed to outscore the Loggers 17-13 in the period. But that wasn't enough, and Kirsten Taylor sank two free throws to put the lead at five with 11.8 seconds to go. The Loggers held on the final possession and won 63-58.

The Loggers were lead by Marley Smiths 19 points. Avrie Schmidt and Cassidy Kretschmer scored 11 and 10 points respectively.  Lincoln Land was lead in rebounding Addison Scarlette and Marley Smith who both pulled down seven rebounds.

Parkland is the second top ten team the Loggers have beaten in February.  Lincoln Land improves to 19-8 on the season and plays host to #7 ranked Lakeland College Wednesday at Cass Gym.
