The Loggers took on SWIC at home tonight, winning the match in 4 sets. Set scores including 25-13, 20-25, 25-16 and 25-19.
Beatriz Bartolome started for the Loggers on the right side, finishing the night with 5 kills and an ace. The first set started fairly even, until a big block by outside hitter Isabel Hudspet, making it 7-6, followed up by a Hudspeth ace, taking the lead, 11-8. A Veach assist and a Powell kill brought the score to 16-11. A Michels service run that included 4 aces, SWIC's final timeout, and a 9-point run brought the Loggers to 23-12. The Loggers took set one, 25-13 with a Beatriz Bartolome Kill.
Set two started with another Bartolome kill, followed by point for point play between the Blue Storm and the Loggers. The Blue Storm then went up 5 points forcing a Loggers timeout, at 9-14. The Loggers fell 12-18 forcing the Loggers final timeout. A pair of Blue Storm hitting errors brought the score to 16-20, but the Loggers ultimately fell in the second set, 20-25.
The Loggers opened set three with a Powell kill, sharp cross court. Josie Wolter came up with an ace to make it 6-2, before a SWIC error, 7-2, forcing a Blue Storm timeout. The Loggers went ahead 9-4. Hudspeth went on a service run of 6 points, including an ace, forcing SWIC's final timeout at 15-4. The Loggers went ahead 20-13 before taking the set 25-16. The Loggers had an impressive 16 kills as a team in the third set, 7 kills from Bella Powell.
The Loggers started down 0-3, in set 4, before turning their energy around and coming up with some big offense, carrying the Loggers to a 2-point lead, 9-7. A Wolter kill brought the score to 11-8. Bella Powell brought the heat from the service line with an ace forcing a Blue Storm timeout at 15-9. The Loggers put together a sting of positive points taking the lead, 18-11, before forcing the Blue Storm's final timeout at 21-14. The Loggers finally took the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
Emily Veach led the Loggers offense with 41 assists. Bella Powell led the offense with 18 kills followed by Michels with 9 kills.
The Loggers continue Home play Saturday Oct. 8th at 9:00 am vs Spoon River and 1:00 pm vs Rend Lake.
