Women's basketball gets big 4th quarter to pull away from Parkland

The #4 ranked Lincoln Land women's team faced conference foe Parkland College Saturday at Cass gym and won 67 – 56.  The win was the 22nd win of the season for the Loggers after suffering a road loss last weekend.  The game started very physical and saw both teams get into foul trouble early.  Despite this, the Logger offense was able to put 20 points on the board and lead 20-12 at the end of the period.

The second quarter again saw physical play on both ends.  Lincoln Land struggled from the field but managed to take a 34-30 lead into half time.  The second half saw Parkland take control of the game as three key Loggers sat on the bench in foul trouble.  Parkland pounded the ball into the post and scored 20 points in the period with 15 of them coming on post touches.  The game was knotted at 50 all at the end of the period.

The fourth quarter again saw the Loggers pick up a quick foul on sophomore forward Katryel Clark as well as Havilyn Dulin.  This is the point where the Logger defense stepped up and took control of the game.  Lincoln Land held Parkland to just two made field goals in the period and outscored the Cobras 17-6 in the final frame.  "Our defense and rebounding was terrific in the that last quarter" stated Logger coach Chad Jones. "Kennedy Bauer really stepped up and made some big defensive plays on their post players."

The game had a personal meaning for freshman Maclayne Taylor as she did battle with Bree Trimble and Peyton Crowe, her former high school teammates at St. Joe Ogden.  Taylor lead all scorers in the game with 16 points.  Two other Loggers were in double digits with Jolene Bueker scoring 13 and Hannah Wallen pitching in 11.   Wallen also lead the Loggers with seven rebounds.  Lincoln Land improves to 22-2 on the season and will travel to John Wood Community College on Wednesday.  This is a rescheduled game from the previous Wednesday that was postponed due to weather.
