The Lincoln Land Womens basketball team lost their first game in over two month Saturday afternoon at Cass Gym falling 82-76 to the #1 ranked team in the nation Illinois Central College. Illinois Central started the game hot from the three point line and never stopped shooting 52% from beyond the arc on the game. Lincoln Land, the conferences leading 3pt shooting team, on the other hand was a dismal 29%.
This was the Loggers fourth game in the last eight days, and it showed. Lincoln Land shot just 50% from the free throw line. The game was close until the last 4 minutes of the second half where Illinois Central went on a 12-2 run. Lincoln Land came out the second half trying to pound the ball inside and cut the lead to ten. Illinois Central then extended their lead behind the hot shooting of Emma Henderson and Summer Stoewer who combined for 11 of 17 from the 3pt line. With five minutes to go, the Loggers mounted a run and cut the lead to four, but time ran out and Illinois Central escaped with a six point win. "Its been a rough week for us and it showed. We looked tired. Im proud of the fight they displayed. Definitely looking forward to the rematch in March." Said Logger Coach Chad Jones
The Loggers in scoring by Katryel Clark with 25 points. Madison Jones had 15, Havilyn Dulin had 13, and Nicole Robinson chipped in 12. Clark lead the team in rebounding with 11, and Jolene Bueker had 8. Havilyn Dulin lead the Loggers with 3 assists. The Loggers play at home in a non-conference contest against Robert Morris University at 5:30pm Tuesday. The Loggers fall to 20-2 on the season.
