The Lincoln Land Loggers defended their #5 national ranking on Wednesday evening against Danville Area College. The Loggers jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter behind six quick points by guard Havilyn Dulin. Lincoln Land lead 25-12 at the end of the first quarter. This would prove to be as close as the game would ever be. The second quarter was much of the same as Lincoln Land used solid defense to lead to fast break points. The half time score was 46-24.
The second half started with two quick buckets by Katryel Clark. Defense was the key for the Loggers in the quarter only giving up 3 points in the period. Lincoln Land, on the other hand, scored 17 in the quarter. This trend continued in the 4th quarter as Danville only scored 3 points this period also. Lincoln Land shot 60% from the field for the game in comparison to 36% to Danville. "Our defense was solid tonight and lead to transition baskets. It was good to keep the pace of the game fast." Stated Logger coach Chad Jones.
The Loggers were lead in scoring by freshman Katryel Clark's 21 points. Clark, the reigning NJCAA player of the week, was 10 of 16 from the field. Havily Dulin contributed 13 points, Hannah Wallen 10, and Trissa Shawgo chipped in 9. Jolene Bueker lead the Loggers with 9 rebounds. Havilyn Dulin lead in assists with 5 and Hannah Wallen contributed 4. Sophomore Chelby Harden had 4 steals.
This was the 25th win for the Loggers, setting a school record for wins in a season. The Loggers are now 25-2 on the season and will travel to East Peoria to take on the #1 team in the nation Illinois Central College on Saturday. One of the two losses the Loggers have this season was earlier in the season to Illinois Central by 6 points.
