LLCC - 65
John Wood Community College - 88
The Lincoln Land men's basketball team couldn't keep pace with the Blazers of John Wood in the second half of their Saturday afternooncontest and fell 88-65.
The Loggers have continued to improve through out the year and find themselves feeling in a much better position than the first time these two teams matched up. However, one theme continues to plague the Loggers, giving up offensive rebounds. John Wood ended with 18 total and 9 in each half, which helped keep them with the first half advantage. If it would not have been for that stat, Lincoln Land had controlled the tempo and the game through out the half. Despite their efforts they found themselves down 4 at half, 34-31, an identical situation to the last time these two faced off.
In Game #1 this year, the wheels fell off for the Loggers right away in the second half as John Wood rattled off a 32-2 run to begin the half. This game the Blazers used little runs to pull away from the Loggers. JWCC would push their lead out to 12 and then the Loggers would maintain for a few possession. Then another quick 6 or 8-0 run would push their advantage over Lincoln Land to around 20. John Wood eventually led by as many as 26 on their way to the 23 point win. Turnovers helped doom the Loggers, who committed 7 in the second half, many of which turned in to Blazer points. John Wood was able to push the temp faster in the second half, where they scored 53 points. Again John Wood pulled in 9 offensive boards in a half. John Wood held the rebounding advantage 43-22 in the game, which resulted in them shooting 18 more field goals than the Loggers on the game.
Sophomore Nic Hagel led the Loggers in both scoring (18) and rebounds (7) in one of his best efforts in recent games. Sophomore Jake Pennell added in 16 and sophomore Logan Clayton put in 10 to be the other other Loggers in double digits.
Lincoln Land is now 4-21 on the season and 1-4 in Mid-West Athletic Conference play. They will continue conference play when they take on Parkland at home on Wednesday evening
