Lewis and Clark Community College came into Cass Gymnasium on Monday evening to take on the Lincoln Land Loggers men's basketball team. L&C walked out with a big 101-57 victory over the hosting Loggers.
Lincoln Land returned home after a rough weekend trip and hoped a home game would do well for them, unfortunately that would not be the case. Lewis and Clark raced out to a 20-12 lead and forced two early Logger timeouts. Lincoln Land was able to play their way back to within 4 points later in the half, but that proved the closest they would get the rest of the way. Lewis and Clark rattled off an 8-0 run to push their lead out to 12. Lincoln Land got as close as 9 with just over 3:00 to go in the first half, but saw the Trailblazers close on a 9-3 run. The Loggers went into the half trailing 44-29.
The second half proved even worse for LLCC. Lewis and Clark began the half with a 21-4 run which put the game out of reach for good. Rebounding, poor shooting, turnovers, and defense were where the Loggers saw the game unravel. Despite only losing the rebounding edge by 1 in the first half (17-16 in favor of L&C), LLCC got out-rebounded by 10 in the second half and 11 for the game. The Loggers committed 24 total turnovers which allowed for Lewis and Clark to cash in with 17 points. The Loggers also gave the Trailblazers 17 total baskets on layups at the rim in the game. Lewis and Clark also outshot the Loggers in every category from the field: 57% - 30% (2 point attempts), 44%-35% (3 point attempts), and 53% - 32% (from the field). Sophomore Jordan Brooks was the only Logger in double digits with 14, freshmen Zach Briggs just missed with 9 total points in the game.
Lincoln Land, now 0-5, heads back out on the road to Hannibal, Missouri Wednesday to take on Hannibal LaGrange JV.
