Loggers take two from Snappers, Win Series
The Loggers finished up their conference set against Spoon River College on Sunday, defeating the Snappers 8-7 and 10-7, winning the series 3 games to 1.
Cade Sestak got the win in relief for the Loggers, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings and striking out 3 batters. The Loggers found themselves down early, but the offense picked up and they were able to climb out a 5 run hole and take game one. Andy Lopez and Talon File both had multiple hits and RBIs in game one. File's second RBI was the game winner for the Loggers in the 8th. Cole Greer also chipped in an RBI, and went 3-4 in the game. CJ Fleming and John Plattner also had RBIs in the extra inning win.
Austin Troemper improved his record to 3-2 on the year after picking up the game two win for the Loggers. The freshman struck out 8 batters in 5 innings and gave up just 5 hits. Leaving the Loggers with a 4 run lead, Troemper exited the game in the top of the 6th. Shayne McNally had another rough outing. The righty wasn't able to get the 3rd out of the 6th, and turned the game over to Andy Davis with 2 runners on with 2 outs and a 2 run lead. Davis got a pop up to end the inning, and was able to retire the Snappers quietly in the 7th for his 2nd save of the series. CJ Fleming came through for the Loggers with a big day at the plate, including 3 RBI and a long homerun he crushed over the left field fence. Along with Fleming, Dalton Fletcher and John Plattner also produced 3 hits for the Loggers. The scoring was rounded out by RBIs from Bryce Torricelli, Talon File, and Clay Bachman.
The Loggers improve to 23-22 (12-12 MWAC) on the season. This Wednesday the Loggers take on the Big Blue of Millikin University. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Claude Kracik Field in Springfield.
