Baseball sweeps Quincy University

Johnson got career victory #1
Lincoln Land took on Quincy in an afternoon doubleheader on Wednesday and were able to take two and get the sweep. Game one was a high scoring affair that left the Loggers out-slugging the Hawks 16-11. Lincoln Land was able to chalk up another come from behind win to take the 10-8 victory.

Jack O'Connor got the win for the Loggers in game one. The freshman went 3 innings, giving up just one run. He was relieved by a handful of pitchers, who were unable to have the same success O'Connor did. In a game that seemed out of reach in favor of the Loggers, the bullpen gave up 10 runs in 2 innings to make it a 2 run ballgame going into the Loggers half of the 6th. The offense came through for the Loggers in grand fashion all day. Sophomore outfielder CJ Fleming roped the ball all over the ballpark in game one, going 5-5 with 4 2B. Talon File, Dalton Fletcher, Noah Powless, and Brendan Hostettler all chipped in 2 RBI apiece. John Plattner contributed a team high 3 RBI in game one. The RBIs by Lopez and Plattner came when they each launched bombs over the left field fence, the first of the year for both. After the bullpen meltdown in innings 4, 5, and 6, Cade Sestak was able to come in for the last out of the 6th and retire the Hawks in the 7th for the save, his 3rd of the year, and the 16-11 Logger win.

Ben Johnson got his first career college win in game two of the day. Johnson worked 2 innings in relief and gave up just one hit and one run. CJ Fleming stayed hot in game two, chipping in another hit to cap off a 6-9 day. Cole Greer chipped in two hits and 3 RBI in the win. Andy Lopez also knocked in 2 RBI in game two. Ethan Klay came in for the 7th inning and shut the door on the Hawks for the 10-8 Logger win and his first save of the year.

With the two wins, the Loggers improve to 14-19 (5-11 MWAC). Next up for the Loggers is a conference matchup with Lincoln College this weekend. They start the 4 game set this Friday at Claude Kracik Field at 1 p.m.
